Math Help for Math 6, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra II

math homework

There's something about math homework that seems to cause frustration and conflicts between kids and parents. Sometimes the frustration arises because kids can't remember how to do the homework problems. Math is also a problem for parents, becuase much of what is taught in school is not part of what parents do every day. When was the last time you had to calculate a square root by hand?

Fortunately, help is available. Our new math programs provide support for both parents and kids, including clear explanations in the textbooks and high quality online resources.

Help for Math 6, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra II

Our Holt math program for these courses provides significant help for kids who are struggling with homework. There is a CD that includes a complete student edition, exercises, and workbook pages, plus online resources for both students and parents.

To access the online resources, look at the Exercise pages in the book. Here's an example from page 374 of the Algebra 1 book.

HRW Menu

For the Parent Resources Online, go to http://go.hrw.com and type MA8CA Parent in the box labeled GO resources at the bottom of the left menu. The GO resources box is circled in the picture on the left.

This page is in Chapter 6, Section B. Click that link on the page that comes up. You will see worked out examples of the kinds of problems in the homework assignment.

The student resources are even better. When you put MA8CA 6-7 into the GO resources box, you get the page below.

If you click on the VIDEO link (not live in this picture), you get a video of Professor Edward Burger explaining how to do the particular kind of problem. There is a whiteboard space where you can see what he's writing down. Professor Burger is a good explainer, and some students really benefit from hearing the explanation again at home.

In addition to the VIDEO link, there's a PRACTICE link (also not live in the picture). This link takes you to a series of problems presented in multiple choice quiz format. When a student selects a wrong answer, corrective feedback appears.

It is worth spending some time exploring the CD and online reources. We have Holt math from Math 6 through Algebra II, and the resources are very similar for the different courses. We believe our teachers made an outstanding choice when they selected this series because it is very user friendly and will benefit both top math students and students who struggle with math.
