Ready for Kindergarten?

How old does my child need to be?

Children who will have their fifth birthday on or before November 1, 2012, are eligible to register for kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year.

*Please note that with recent passage of the Kindergarten Readiness Act, eligibility for admission to Kindergarten changes so that a child's 5th birthday must occur on or before November 1, 2012, in order to enroll in Kindergarten. (Previously it had been December 2.) The district is exploring offering a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program--pending state funding. On March 24, 2012 we will be accepting enrollment of all Kindergarten students, including that of prospective TK students whose 5th birthday falls after November 1 and on or before December 2, 2012. We will be in direct contact with parents of prospective TK students, and anticipate having final word on the status of the program in mid-May for the Fall of 2012.

When should I register my kindergartner?

Kindergarten registration for 2012-2013 begins on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Registration hours are 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Children are placed at their home school according to when their registration is received, and children registered early are less likely to be moved to other schools because their neighborhood school is full. Schools will continue to accept kindergarten registration after March 24 during regular school office hours.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring the following documents to registration. You will not be able to register your child unless his/her immunizations are up to date. Immunizations can be provided by a family doctor.

child's Social Security card
child's immunization records
copy of PG & E bill or address verification
proof of physical (must be dated after 8/2011)
verification of oral assessment (dental checkup)
