What is the West Sacramento Home Run?
The West Sacramento Home Run is helping your children’s dreams come true! This partnership between the district and the City of West Sacramento is helping reduce barriers to life after high school by setting children up with high-quality learning opportunities and financial incentives.
There is NO COST to participate in any of the Home Run programs!

To apply for the College Promise, complete the FAFSA and West Sacramento Promise applications located on the Sacramento City College website.

High-Quality Preschool
High-Quality Preschool - Home Run Certified High-Quality Preschools participate in California’s Quality Counts programming to help ensure that West Sacramento’s children have the best learning experience possible. These preschools must meet rigorous standards that ensure a safe, supportive learning environment with well-trained, nurturing teachers and staff.
College Savings Accounts

College Cavings Accounts - Start saving for your child’s education after they graduate. College Savings Accounts can be used at a community college, traditional four-year university, vocational and trade schools.
The best part is you only need $1 to open an account!
REQUIREMENTS FOR HOME RUN ACCOUNT:
- Did your child attend a certified high quality preschool in 2017-18 or later?
- Did your child attend kindergarten in WUSD?
If you answered yes to BOTH questions, CONGRATULATIONS! Your child has $50 waiting in a College Savings Account. Learn how to claim your account here.
Paid High School Internships
Paid High School Internships - High school students can get hands-on experience one of several industries during an 8-week summer internship.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 16 years old by start of the internship.
- Must complete two courses in a single Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway.
Digital Micro-Credentials



Digital Micro-Credentials - Through the Home Run initiative, the City of West Sacramento aims to improve the work readiness skills of our entry-level workforce. The Home Run offers three online courses designed to help students and early-career workers gain the 21st Century Skills valued most by local employers. By completing each course, learners can earn a digital micro-credential that serves as evidence of that skill.
To enroll in a course, simply email the Home Run team with your name and mailing address.
College Promise
College Promise - Every WUSD graduate can attend Sacramento City College fee-free for two years. There are no income or GPA requirements to participate.
To apply for the College Promise, complete the FAFSA and West Sacramento Promise applications located on the Sacramento City College website.

Ready, Set, Save! - West Sacramento families can earn up to $1,000 for their children’s future educational expenses by completing positive academic, civic and career readiness activities. These activities include things you are probably already doing!
