Parents have the ability to view their students’ course content (assignment due dates, assignments, course modules, etc.) by creating a Canvas “Observer” account that is linked to their student(s) account.

 

Note: If you have already created an account for the Canvas Parent App, you can use the same login credentials.

To create an observer account and link to your student(s), you must obtain a student pairing code. Click here for complete instructions with visuals on how to generate a pairing code.

 

You will always login at wusdk12.instructure.com. Parents will log in to Canvas with the username and password created when signing up for a Canvas account.

 

     A.  Go to https://wusdk12.instructure.com/
            1. Click the “Parent of a Canvas User?” link.
            2. Fill in the information until you get to the Pairing Code.
            3. Enter the Pairing Code in the set-up screen (see next set of instructions)
            4. Click the box to agree to the terms of use and privacy policy.
            5. Click Start Participating to finish the set-up.

 

2. Finding the Pairing Code (overview):
            1. Have your student open up their Canvas page.
            2. Go to Account and click Settings.
            3. On the right-hand side, click the Pair with Observer button.
            4. The code on the pop-up is the code you will use to pair with your student’s account.

 

If your child does not know his/her login, please get in touch with your child's teacher for assistance.

As a student, you can generate a pairing code to link an observer to your Canvas account. You must create a separate pairing code for each observer who wants to link to your account. View the Pairing Codes - Frequently Asked Questions PDF for more information on pairing codes.

An observer may be your parent, guardian, mentor, counselor, or someone who needs to view your Canvas courses. Linked observers can view and participate in some aspects of your Canvas courses. For more information on the observer role, view the Observer Visibility and Participation PDF.

If you are an observer and want to generate a pairing code for a student, you must log in to the student’s Canvas account and follow the steps in this lesson. After you have copied the pairing code, you can link to the student by entering the code in your User Settings.

Pairing codes can only be generated from the web version of Canvas. Pairing codes cannot be generated from the Canvas mobile apps.

Click the Pair with Observer button.

 

Note: If the Pair with Observer button doesn't display in your User Settings, please get in touch with your institution for assistance pairing with an observer.

 

Copy the six-digit alphanumeric pairing code [1]. You will need to share the code with the observer who will link to your account. The pairing code will expire after seven days or its first use.

To close the window, click the OK button [2].

Note: Pairing codes are case sensitive.
