Virginia Coffey, born and raised in West Sacramento, graduated from Saint Mary's College of California (SMC) with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal and Civics studies in 2005. She obtained her Master of Arts in Teaching and teaching credentials from SMC School of Education in 2006. Virginia's dream has always been to give back to the community that helped raise her: West Sacramento. She worked for Washington Unified School District as a substitute teacher in various school sites and had a long-term substitute position at Yolo High School. She became a full-time teacher at Westfield Village Elementary as a 6th-grade and 4th-grade teacher. Unfortunately, the recession took place, and a lot of teachers were laid off, including her. She became a part-time tutor helping some of her past students in English and Mathematics.

In 2012 she began to work for the State of California, where she learned about statutes, regulations, procedures, and how to write and interpret laws. She is currently a manager and has been since 2015. Although she no longer works for the school district, she still helps the West Sacramento Community in other capacities, like youth sports programs such as the West Sacramento Little League, West Sacramento Bears Football and Cheer - which she helped start by being a coach, an assistant coach, team parent, and/or a board member. Virginia and her three children live in the same house that her parents and grandparents lived in before her in West Sacramento and are enrolled in Washington Unified School District. She and her family enjoy traveling and spending quality time together.
