About
The Washington Unified School District (WUSD) 7-11 Committee, officially known as the Surplus Property Advisory Committee, was established by the Board of Education in accordance with California Education Code sections 17387–17391. The Committee’s primary purpose is to review and analyze District-owned real property, such as Bryte Park, and provide recommendations to the Board regarding the use or potential disposition of properties that may no longer be needed for school purposes.
This diverse, Board-appointed committee is composed of seven to eleven members representing the District’s ethnic, age, and socioeconomic diversity, as well as the business community, landowners or renters, teachers, administrators, parents, and individuals with expertise in areas such as environmental impact and land use planning. The Committee’s responsibilities include:
- Reviewing school enrollment and facility data to determine surplus space
- Establishing and circulating a priority list of potential uses for surplus property
- Conducting public hearings to gather community input
- Making final recommendations to the Board regarding the use or disposition of identified properties
All meetings are open to the public and conducted in compliance with the Brown Act. Agendas, minutes, reports, and all related materials are published here to ensure transparency and public access, in accordance with the California Public Records Act.
